A Message from the Director

  • Linda

How quickly the summer fades and before you know it fall will arrive!

Welcome to the BCSS CAPE Resource Center. The Center serves the special needs community by providing access to information, resources, services, educational opportunities, and referrals. Learn about the many features, services and benefits that the Center brings to the special needs community.

We open the fall season with our always popular Parent-to-Parent Exchange monthly meetings. The first one meets on Tuesday, September 10th at 7:00pm. The remainder of the year the meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 7:00pm except for October, which will be held on October 15th.  These parent support meetings are geared to parents with youth 14 years and older, who have developmental and other disabilities. Doreen Moran leads the group and she wears the hat of both professional in the field and parent of two young adults with disabilities. Hope you can participate - drop in when you can.

Towards the middle of the month, on Thursday, September 19 at 6:30pm we will be hosting along with POAC Autism Services a workshop titled, Hidden Dangers:  How to Keep Individuals with DD Safe in the Home, School.  Whether it is wandering,  bullying or how to choose a low or high tech monitoring device, this workshop will provide concrete solutions to risks our children and adults are exposed to on a daily basis.

We end September with a workshop So You’ve Become a Legal Guardian!  Now What? on Wednesday, September 25, also at 6:30. Ray Falcon, Esq. will address the nuts and bolts of being a guardian for an individual with developmental disabilities. Did you know an Annual Report needs to be filed? This is important information for anyone who is a legal guardian or plans on filing for legal guardianship for a loved one. Bring your questions because Ray will have the answers!

We have planned some very exciting NEW workshops for parents/caregivers and professionals during the 2019-20 school year, so check back in a few weeks.  For more information, please visit - https://cape.bergen.org

Of course, feel free to contact me at the BCSS CAPE Resource Center if you have any questions.

    All the best,
